I’m not sure if I’ve just had a major shock or a major laugh-at-me experience, but it was definitely one that got my heart pumping.
Let me begin this short story with a long explanation.
I work two jobs, one from 5 to 8 a.m. and the other from 8:15 to 5 or 6 p.m. I wake up at 4 a.m.
I am also a partner in TIBC and the recently launched TIBC Press. Because I haven’t earmarked every waking hour, I go to school full-time and will finish my second master’s degree at the end of this month.
On top of the busyness, I’m a wife and mother.
Sometimes, life has a way of waking a person up and giving them a solid shake. That happened for me tonight.
I stayed up late last night doing homework, finally dragging myself to bed around 12:30 a.m. I woke up at 4 a.m., as usual, and went about my day. By dinner this evening, I was so tired I could barely move.
See… I told you this was a long introduction to a very short story…
I decided to climb into bed for a bit to rest and quickly fell into a deep sleep. My plan was to rejuvenate myself so I could get some more homework done.
Suddenly, in my sleepy haze, I rolled over and looked at the clock — 8:00! I looked around, light was peeping into the room that was normally dark when I awoke. I looked over and my phone wasn’t plugged in… OH, NO! I had overslept! I ran through the house, trying to figure out why no one called me to say I hadn’t opened the store. My heart was pounding! I was disoriented and foggy. I couldn’t figure out how I had allowed myself to oversleep.
It took me a full three minutes or more to realize it was 8 p.m.
